Job summary

Ad Hoc is seeking a Staff Software Engineer - Full Stack to drive technical direction and deliver scalable digital services for the Veterans Affairs Unit. You will influence architecture, collaborate with stakeholders, and guide teams toward high-quality software solutions.

With a strong focus on Ruby on Rails and RESTful APIs, you will own critical engineering decisions, mentor peers, and help deliver secure, reliable government-focused software across the United States.

Qualifications

• Eight+ years of professional software engineering experience or ten+ years without a degree.
• Expert experience with Ruby on Rails and RESTful API design.
• Ability to triage production issues and lead technical initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute technical roadmaps for new initiatives with minimal oversight.
• Participate in strategic planning sessions with customers, partners, and internal stakeholders.
• Occasionally travel to collaborate with and present to clients and project partners.
• Break down complex, ambiguous product challenges into actionable technical solutions.
• Reduce technical debt through documentation, refactoring, and automated testing.
• Clearly communicate system architecture, decisions, and tradeoffs for proposals.
• Participate in technical interviews and evaluate engineering candidates.
• Present technical concepts to diverse audiences to support decisions.
• Champion engineering best practices across teams.
