Job summary

McGraw Hill is seeking a Senior Front-end Software Engineer to build and improve AI-driven web experiences, instructor courseware, and related platforms. You will lead front-end architecture, mentor engineers, and collaborate across product, design, backend, platform, and data teams.

The role emphasizes scalable, accessible, secure, and performant UI development, with responsibility for code quality and cross-team collaboration in a dynamic EdTech environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software development experience.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Advanced proficiency with TypeScript, JavaScript, React, and Next.js.
• Experience building component-based UIs and design systems.
• Experience integrating GraphQL and REST APIs.
• Familiarity with Apollo Client and schema-driven development.
• Experience with AI-driven user experiences or AI-assisted workflows.
• Ability to lead complex front-end initiatives and influence architecture.
• Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to front-end standards.
• Experience with automated testing, Git workflows, and CI/CD.
• Familiarity with Playwright and web accessibility, performance, security.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain user-facing web apps using TS, React, and Next.js.
• Build reusable, accessible, responsive UI components.
• Integrate front-end apps with GraphQL and REST APIs.
• Work with GraphQL schemas, generated types, queries, mutations, and client data.
• Lead complex front-end initiatives and contribute to shared libraries.
• Collaborate with product, design, backend, mobile, platform, and data teams.
• Influence technical decisions and communicate trade-offs across teams.
• Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and planning.
• Write automated tests and champion quality, accessibility, performance, security.
• Troubleshoot production issues and implement durable solutions.
• Follow compliance, auditability, and change-management practices.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to continuous improvement.
• Use automation and AI-assisted tools to improve development efficiency
