Job summary

McGraw Hill is seeking a Sr. Software Engineer – Applied AI to help design and scale AI-driven, full-stack applications across our platform. You will collaborate with data scientists and product teams to deliver robust, secure solutions leveraging generative AI and LLM tooling.

As a senior contributor, you will mentor engineers, shape technical direction, and ensure accessible, high-performance software while advancing our AI initiatives in a remote-first, US-wide team.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of product or enterprise software development with hands-on AI powered apps.
• Full stack experience: Backend/API (Python, Node.js) and Frontend (React/Angular).
• Hands-on MCP design with servers/clients for LLMs and data sources.
• Experience with Azure AI OpenAI, Bedrock, or similar cloud AI services.
• Generative AI focus with LangChain experience and RAG techniques.
• Proven ability to lead design, mentor engineers, and influence architecture.
• Strong, clear technical communication and collaboration skills.
• Experience building accessible web features (WCAG 2.2 AA).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, implement, and maintain AI platform and AI powered tools.
• Lead scoping, architecture, and implementation of complex cross-team solutions.
• Own development tasks end-to-end with quality and timeliness.
• Mentor junior engineers through code reviews and design discussions.
• Collaborate with data scientists, product managers, and engineers to deliver solutions.
• Stay current with AI advances and integrate new capabilities.
• Implement security best practices and data privacy compliance.
• Contribute to CI/CD and cloud infra for performance and cost optimization.
• Promote engineering best practices for reliability and maintainability.
• Develop accessible features in web applications.
