McGraw Hill is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to power AI-driven learning experiences and digital courseware. You will design and operate scalable backend services using TypeScript and Go, across GraphQL and REST APIs, on Kubernetes and AWS.

You will own services through their lifecycle, mentor engineers, and collaborate with multiple teams to deliver reliable, secure platform capabilities. This role requires strong communication and a passion for education technology.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software development experience, including production backend services.
• Strong experience building and operating backend services with TypeScript and Go.
• Experience with microservices and distributed systems.
• Experience designing GraphQL and REST APIs.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and operate scalable backend services using TypeScript and Go.
• Own services through their full lifecycle, including architecture and production readiness.
• Build and evolve GraphQL and REST APIs with careful versioning and migrations.
• Design distributed systems and independently deployable microservices.
• Develop event producers/consumers and asynchronous processing.
• Operate services on Kubernetes and Amazon EKS, using AWS services.
• Collaborate with multiple teams on shared-service integrations and contracts.
• Improve reliability via automated testing, observability, logging, and performance tuning.
• Participate in architecture discussions and production support, mentoring engineers.
