Job summary

McGraw Hill is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to build and evolve the services powering its AI-driven learning experiences and digital courseware. You will work across TypeScript and Go microservices, GraphQL and REST APIs, distributed systems, event-driven architectures, AWS, data platforms, and Kubernetes-based infrastructure.

This role requires leading complex initiatives, influencing architecture, and delivering reliable solutions across team boundaries.

Qualifications

8+ years of professional software development experience.
Experience building and operating production backend services.
Strong experience with TypeScript and Go.
Experience with microservices and distributed systems.
Knowledge of GraphQL and REST APIs.
Hands-on with AWS and Kubernetes (EKS preferred).
Ability to lead complex initiatives and mentor engineers.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and operate scalable backend services in TypeScript and Go.
Own services through architecture, delivery, and production readiness.
Build GraphQL/REST APIs, schemas, and service contracts with versioning.
Develop distributed systems and independently deployable microservices.
Build event producers/consumers and asynchronous processing.
Operate services on Kubernetes/Amazon EKS and AWS services.
Collaborate across teams to plan integrations and manage dependencies.
Improve reliability with testing, observability, tracing, and logging.
