Job summary

AUI's National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Charlottesville, VA seeks an experienced FPGA System Architect to lead the design and deployment of next-generation FPGA-based DSP systems for a radio telescope synthesis array. You will own system architecture, perform RTL development oversight, and drive cross-team collaboration across embedded software and data transport interfaces.

The role requires eight years of FPGA DSP experience, strong leadership, and excellent communication.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Eight years of experience developing complex FPGA-based DSP systems.
  • Experience leading the architecture, development, integration, and deployment of FPGA-based systems.
  • Experience with timing and synchronization concepts for high-throughput FPGA systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture, design, integration, and deployment of the antenna-side FPGA-based DSP system.
  • Define subsystem decomposition, interfaces, and data flows across FPGA elements, embedded software, timing, and data transport.
  • Lead subsystem design reviews and contribute to system-level design reviews.
  • Document system architectures, interfaces, design decisions, and verification approaches.
