Job summary

Forward Air Corp. is seeking a Forklift Operator to safely load, unload, and move freight in a multimodal terminal or warehouse. You will manage scanning, documentation, and dock activities while mentoring newer material handlers.

The role requires a valid forklift certification, 3+ years dock/warehouse experience, and strong English communication. Expect a Tuesday–Saturday night shift onsite with base pay of $24/hr plus $1.50 night differential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
• Valid forklift certification/licensure (or ability to obtain before operating equipment).
• 3+ years of dock or warehouse experience.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing, to understand safety and operational instructions.
• Able to recognize numbers, labels, barcodes, and freight markings and perform basic arithmetic.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight using sit-down/stand-up forklifts and other MHE, following safety procedures.
• Move, stage, sort, and position freight between dock doors and designated areas.
• Pick, pack, and prepare items for shipping and delivery.
• Assist drivers with loading/unloading per dock procedures.
• Label, scan, and track freight to ensure accuracy.
• Identify damaged freight and report issues to supervision.
• Maintain safety policies and PPE standards.
• Keep dock clean, safe, and organized.
• Learn equipment operation and safety protocols on the floor.
• Support dock productivity and operational goals.
• Work nights/weekends/overtime as needed.
• Handle oversized or high-value freight safely.
• Assist with dock coordination and problem resolution.
• Prioritize freight and assist with lead tasks when applicable.
• Serve as SME on dock operations and procedures.
• Train and mentor other Material Handlers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
