Job summary

Forward Air Corp. is seeking an experienced Forklift Operator to safely load, unload, stage, and document cargo in a multimodal terminal or warehouse environment.

This role mentors newer staff and supports dock productivity on a Tuesday-Saturday night schedule, with strict adherence to safety policies and PPE standards. Responsibilities include operating sit-down/stand-up forklifts and other MHE, scanning freight, and ensuring accurate freight counts and documentation.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
• Valid forklift certification/licensure required.
• 3+ years of dock or warehouse experience required.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing, to understand safety and operational instructions.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight using sit-down/stand-up forklifts and other MHE.
• Move, stage, sort, and position freight between dock doors, trailers, and designated areas.
• Pick, pack, and prepare items for shipping and delivery.
• Assist drivers with loading and unloading activities following dock/safety procedures.
• Label, scan, and track freight using handheld devices and company systems.
• Identify damaged freight and report issues to supervisory personnel.
• Follow safety policies, OSHA requirements, and PPE standards.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized dock environment.
• Perform tasks while learning equipment operation and safety protocols.
• Support dock productivity and workflow efficiency.
• Work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
• Safely handle oversized/high-value freight.
• Mentor other Material Handlers.
• Serve as subject-matter expert on dock operations and procedures.
