Forward Air Corp. is seeking a Forklift Operator to safely load, unload, and move freight in a multimodal terminal or dock setting. You will scan, document, stage, and track cargo while ensuring accuracy and safety at every step.

The role requires 3+ years of dock or warehouse experience, a valid forklift certification, and strong English communication. Expect a physically demanding schedule with diverse shifts and adherence to OSHA procedures.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
• Certification: Valid forklift certification/licensure required or ability to obtain before operating equipment.
• Experience: 3+ years of dock or warehouse experience.
• Communication: Ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing.
• Math: Ability to recognize numbers, labels, barcodes, and freight markings; perform basic arithmetic.
• Technology: Willingness to learn handheld scanners and freight-tracking devices.
• Equipment: Safe operation of forklifts and related MHE with training.
• Attendance: Regular and predictable attendance.
• Physical: Ability to stand and lift up to 50 lbs (75 lbs with assistance).
• Safety: Adherence to PPE and OSHA requirements.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight using forklifts and other MHE.
• Move, stage, and position freight between doors, trailers, and storage areas.
• Pick, pack, and prepare items for shipping.
• Assist drivers with loading/unloading following safety procedures.
• Scan and track freight with handheld devices and company systems for accuracy.
• Identify damaged freight and report issues to supervision.
• Maintain a clean, safe dock environment and comply with safety policies.
• Learn equipment operation, safety protocols, and procedures while developing in the role.
• Support dock productivity and workflow efficiency.
• Work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
• Handle oversized or high‑value freight safely.
• Assist with dock coordination and task prioritization.
• Lead-task assignments when required without direct supervision.
• Serve as SME on dock operations and procedures.
• Train and mentor other Material Handlers.
