Job summary

Collins Aerospace in the United States is seeking a Senior Flammability Engineer to review engineering designs and develop substantiation data to demonstrate compliance with regulatory and customer requirements for aircraft lavatories.

You will collaborate with design engineers, FAA authorized representatives, and subject matter experts to establish acceptable showing of compliance for flammability and to coordinate internal and external lab tests such as heat release, smoke density and toxicity.

Qualifications

  • University degree in STEM with 5+ years of experience, or advanced degree with 3+ years.
  • Knowledge of material properties and flammability.
  • Ability to interpret material and fabrication specifications for non-metallic structures.
  • Basic knowledge of composite manufacturing methods and related processes.

Responsibilities

  • Review designs, regulatory and customer requirements, and qualification plans and develop substantiation data.
  • Prepare or review flammability test drawings, plans, reports and qualification documents.
  • Support fire properties testing including coordination of lab tests.
  • Review design changes and prepare documentation for flammability compliance.
  • Collaborate across design teams and with customers and FAA representatives to show compliance.
