Job summary

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Senior Flammability Engineer to support the Lavatories Business Unit in flammability substantiation for aircraft interiors. You will review designs, develop substantiation data, and coordinate tests to ensure compliance with 14 CFR 25.853 and OEM requirements, working with FAA representatives and customer engineers.

The role emphasizes cross-disciplinary collaboration, documentation, and adherence to regulatory standards, with onsite work expectations and a robust

Qualifications

  • University Degree in STEM and a minimum of 5 years of experience OR an Advanced Degree with minimum 3 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of material property characteristics and flammability.
  • Ability to interpret material and fabrication process specifications for non-metallic structures.
  • Basic knowledge of composite manufacturing methods and related processes (vacuum forming, injection molding, bonding, trim).

Responsibilities

  • Review designs, regulatory and customer requirements, and qualification plans to develop substantiation data.
  • Prepare or review flammability test drawings, plans, reports, and qualification documents.
  • Coordinate internal and external fire properties testing (Bunsen burner, heat release, smoke density, toxicity).
  • Review design changes and prepare documentation for flammability compliance.
  • Collaborate across design disciplines during product development.
  • Work with customer engineers and FAA representatives to establish acceptable compliance showing.
