Job summary

Wayve’s Detroit office seeks a Senior Field Engineer to lead and execute complex vehicle software/hardware fault resolution. You will own projects end-to-end, act as escalation point, and mentor others while maintaining safety-first operations across a global fleet.

You’ll operate in a shift-based, 24/7 support environment, with 10-15% travel, collaborating with Field Engineering and Fleet Service leadership to ensure reliability and continuous improvement of autonomous driving platforms.

Qualifications

• Advanced technical expertise diagnosing complex vehicle software and hardware issues in fleet, automotive, robotics, or ADAS environments.
• Familiarity with software debugging concepts: logs, deployments, configurations, system states, and failure modes.
• Proven ability to solve problems independently and make sound technical decisions in ambiguous scenarios.
• Experience leading technical initiatives and setting priorities without formal people management responsibility.
• Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of projects, processes, or systems.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams and global regions.
• Deep understanding of safety protocols, incident management, and operational governance.
• Experience with vehicle diagnostic tools, monitoring platforms (e.g., Datadog, Mender), and ticketing systems such as JIRA.
• Comfortable working in a shift-based, 24/7 global support environment, including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Lead resolution of challenging vehicle software and hardware issues and set technical priorities.
• Act as escalation point and stand-in for Field Engineering Lead when required.
• Own projects, processes, or systems end-to-end from problem definition to delivery.
• Identify recurring fleet issues and drive improvements to tooling and workflows.
• Coordinate incidents and projects with cross-functional teams and document learnings.
