Job summary

Layton Construction seeks a Senior Estimator to manage and assist in preparing estimates for diverse projects, ensuring cost accuracy and alignment with Owner requirements. The role reports to the SBU Executive or Chief Estimator as directed.

The Senior Estimator will lead preconstruction efforts, coordinate with architects and Owners, and develop bid proposals. Strong integrity, communication, and scheduling skills are essential in this high-responsibility position in Hawaii.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction related field or equivalent education and experience.
• Over seven years’ experience in estimating commercial construction projects, demonstrating competence in hard-bid, design-build, and conceptual estimating.
• Possesses knowledge of all construction systems and disciplines, including mechanical and electrical, to complete comprehensive cost estimates.
• Good working knowledge of self-performed concrete construction.
• Experience estimating at all design stages: conceptual, schematic, design development, and construction documents.
• Understands and uses proven estimating and bidding strategies.
• Practices Target Value Design principles.
• Proficient with Layton’s latest estimating software and systems.
• Strong ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Champions “The Layton Way” by delivering predictable outcomes for internal teams, external teams, and customers.
• Ensures Constructing with Integrity through honesty, unity, safety, and quality of work.
• Prepares estimates and supplementary information for potential projects.
• Reads and improves contract documents; offers Value-Engineering and Life-Cycle cost options.
• Performs quantity take-offs, pricing, and data analysis.
• Coordinates preconstruction services beyond cost estimating.
• Leads preconstruction collaboration with Architects and Owners.
• Solicits bids from subcontractors and suppliers and maintains contact lists.
• Clarifies pricing with subs and suppliers and assesses competitiveness.
• Prepares bid formats including general conditions and bid analyses.
• Prepares bid proposals for submittal and attends Owner meetings during estimate development.
• Creates detailed schedules for proposed projects and initiates special projects.
• Guides staff on special projects and develops schematic plans to illustrate approach and strategy.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
