Job summary

Layton Construction is seeking a Senior Estimator in Los Angeles to manage and assist in the compilation of estimates for diverse projects, ensuring cost accuracy and professional communication with Owners.

The role reports to the SBU Executive or Chief Estimator and involves leading preconstruction processes, applying value engineering, and preparing detailed bid proposals and schedules while coordinating with subs and suppliers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction field or equivalent education and experience.
• Over five years' experience in estimating commercial construction projects (hard-bid, design-build, conceptual).
• Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems to complete comprehensive cost estimates.
• Experience estimating at all design stages: conceptual, schematic, design development, construction documents.
• Proficiency with Target Value Design principles.
• Proven experience with Destini Estimator, BlueBeam, Assemble and related software.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines; strong team coordination.
• Effective written, verbal and presentation skills.
• Experience with Revit and Primavera systems.

Responsibilities

• Prepare estimates and supplementary information for potential projects.
• Read and interpret contract documents and offer value-engineering options.
• Perform quantity take-offs, organize, price and analyze information.
• Lead preconstruction activities and collaborate with architects/owners.
• Solicit bids from subcontractors and suppliers and manage pricing clarifications.
• Prepare bid proposals and participate in Owner meetings during estimate development.
• Develop detailed schedules for proposed projects.
