Job summary

Markel Corporation seeks an Executive Claims Examiner to manage high-exposure environmental, products liability, and life sciences claims. You will analyze coverage issues, oversee litigation, and collaborate with underwriting and product teams in a hybrid work setting.

Position requires 8–10 years of complex casualty claims handling, strong negotiation and written communication, and the ability to work autonomously within authority levels. US work authorization is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; JD or other advanced degree preferred.
• 8–10 years of complex casualty claims handling experience.
• Expertise in coverage analysis and interpretation of specialty policies.
• Experience managing complex litigation and overseeing outside counsel.
• Excellent negotiation and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently within designated authority levels.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage a caseload of complex environmental, products liability, life sciences, toxic tort, professional liability, and general liability claims.
• Analyze policy language and coverage issues; issue reservations and coverage positions.
• Evaluate liability, damages and exposure; establish reserves.
• Direct and oversee defense and coverage counsel and experts.
• Develop and execute claim strategies; participate in mediations and settlements.
