Job summary

Markel in Plano, TX seeks an experienced claims professional to manage a moderate- complexity caseload including environmental, products liability, and life sciences claims. You will investigate, analyze policy language, reserve, and coordinate settlements under delegated authority.

You will work with defense counsel and experts, prepare claim summaries, and communicate status to insureds and stakeholders. A Bachelor's degree and 2–4 years’ casualty claims work are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and claims experience.
• 2-4 years of casualty claims handling experience; experience with environmental, products liability, life sciences, professional liability, bodily injury, or property damage claims is preferred.
• Working knowledge of claim investigation, coverage analysis, liability assessment, reserve evaluation, litigation management, and settlement practices.
• Ability to interpret commercial insurance policies and identify issues requiring escalation or additional guidance.
• Experience working with defense counsel and managing litigated claims is preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present claim issues clearly and concisely.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate claim documentation.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment within assigned authority and seek guidance when warranted.
• Professional designation such as AIC, CPCU, SCLA, or equivalent is a plus.]
• Proficiency with claims management systems and Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Manage an assigned caseload of environmental, products liability, life sciences, professional liability, and general liability claims of moderate complexity.
• Conduct timely claim investigations, including review of pleadings, contracts, medical records, expert materials, and other relevant documentation.
• Analyze policy language and identify coverage issues, escalating complex matters.
• Evaluate liability, damages, and exposure and maintain reserves within authority.
• Develop and execute claim handling plans and document developments.
• Direct and monitor defense counsel, consultants, and experts per guidelines.
• Review litigation strategy, budgets, and legal bills; address cost concerns.
• Negotiate settlements within authority and seek approvals for higher authority when needed.
• Participate in mediations, settlement conferences, and other claim meetings.
• Communicate with insureds, brokers, counsel, claimants, and internal stakeholders on status and strategy.
• Prepare concise claim summaries and updates for management and underwriting.
• Escalate significant coverage, regulatory, or reputational issues promptly.
• Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and company practices.
