Markel Corporation seeks a claims professional to resolve environmental, products liability, life sciences, professional liability, and general liability claims of moderate complexity. You will investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and settle claims within your authority, coordinating with defense counsel and experts as needed.

Responsibilities include reviewing contracts and medical records, analyzing policy language for coverage issues, and maintaining accurate claim files.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant claims experience required.
• 2-4 years of casualty claims handling experience; environmental, products liability, life sciences, professional liability, bodily injury, or property damage claims preferred.
• Ability to interpret commercial insurance policies and identify issues requiring escalation or additional guidance.
• Experience with defense counsel and managing litigated claims preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication, analytical, organizational, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
• Proficiency with claims management systems and Microsoft Office applications.

Responsabilités

• Manage an assigned caseload of environmental, products liability, life sciences, professional liability, and general liability claims of moderate complexity.
• Conduct timely claim investigations, review pleadings, contracts, medical records, expert materials, and other relevant documentation.
• Analyze policy language and identify coverage issues; escalate complex matters and prepare reservation of rights or other coverage correspondence.
• Evaluate liability, damages, and exposure and establish reserves within authority.
• Develop and execute claim handling plans, document developments, and maintain claim files.
• Select, direct, and monitor defense counsel, consultants, and experts per guidelines.
• Review litigation strategy, budgets, legal bills, and case evaluations; address performance or cost concerns.
• Negotiate settlements within authority and prepare recommendations for more authority.
• Participate in mediations, settlement conferences, and other claim-related meetings.
• Communicate with insureds, brokers, counsel, claimants, and internal stakeholders; provide status and strategy updates.
• Prepare concise claim summaries, reports, and updates for management and underwriting.
• Identify and escalate significant coverage, severity, legal, regulatory, or reputational issues.
• Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, service standards, and claim handling practices.
