Job summary

Markel is seeking a claims professional to manage a portfolio of environmental, products liability, life sciences, and general liability claims of moderate complexity. You will investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and settle within authority, reviewing contracts and medical records to identify coverage issues.

Candidates should have 2-4 years of casualty claims handling experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to coordinate with defense counsel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant claims experience.
• 2-4 years of casualty claims handling experience; preferred in environmental, products liability, life sciences, professional liability, bodily injury, or property damage.
• Ability to interpret commercial insurance policies and identify escalation needs.
• Experience with defense counsel and litigated claims preferred.
• Strong communication, analytical, organizational, negotiation and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage an assigned caseload of environmental, products liability, life sciences, professional liability, and general liability claims of moderate complexity.
• Investigate, evaluate, negotiate and settle claims within authority.
• Review pleadings, contracts, medical records, and expert materials for coverage and liability.
• Coordinate with defense counsel and experts; monitor budgets and litigation strategy.
• Prepare claim summaries and updates for management and underwriting.
