Job summary

Garmin is seeking a Senior Engineering Technician at its U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. You will build, test, troubleshoot, repair, and modify advanced development and production equipment and systems while mentoring junior staff.

You will design test fixtures, document test plans, and perform qualification activities, applying Garmin’s quality standards. This full-time role emphasizes speed, accuracy, and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Electronics Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a substantially similar field, or electronics-related military training, or 80 hours towards a BS in related field, or ISCET/certification.
• GPA at least 3.0.
• Expert proficiency with lab equipment and test setups; able to design advanced fixtures.
• Proficient with MS Office Word & Excel.
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Team-oriented with positive attitude and collaboration.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and team lift up to 100 lbs.
• Understanding of schematic designs and test circuits (electrical role).
• Understanding of electrical engineering/software system interactions.

Responsibilities

• Recommend design improvements to improve reliability and simplify assembly.
• Maintain lab equipment and fixtures; design test fixture improvements as needed.
• Write technical reports and document test setups and results.
• Set up and complete detailed qualification plans and reports.
• Mentor Engineering Lab Assistants and Technicians.
• Perform moderately complex troubleshooting with minimal input.
• Document test plans and reports to ensure reproducibility.
• Manage time to deliver high-quality output.
• Identify and resolve problems using proper engineering tools and methods.
