Job summary

Nava’s Software Engineering Manager role focuses on steering career growth for direct reports while remaining an active technical contributor. You’ll lead cross-functional teams, design architectures, and ensure delivery of secure, scalable cloud solutions for government programs.

The position blends technical leadership with hands-on coding or architecture work, supporting Nava’s mission to improve public services through thoughtful engineering and collaboration.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in an agile, multidisciplinary team environment, preferably designing and building medium to large-scale on Cloud platforms.
• 1+ years experience as a People Manager.
• Experience designing and implementing production-grade, cloud-native microservices and RESTful APIs using Java, Spring Boot, and containerized deployment patterns.
• Experience with relational databases, preferably Postgres, using JDBC and ORM mappers like Hibernate.
• Experience with DevOps, preferably with Jenkins CI/CD.
• Experience utilizing AWS cloud native services and data engineering.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Writing code and performing code reviews.
• Writing and reviewing technical specifications.
• Collaborating with cross-functional product teams to identify and mitigate technical risks.
• Guiding the engineering team on planning, estimation, prioritization, and debt management.
• Review architecture and designs from other project teams.
• Designing technical roadmaps and enforcing architecture.
• Maintaining production systems and handling on-call duties.
