Rain is seeking a Head of Engineering to lead a ~30-person team, shaping architecture, quality, and delivery for our payments platform. You will stay hands-on and mentor managers while partnering with Product, Risk, and Compliance to scale safely.

You’ll drive design reviews, incident retros, and technical bets that enable 10x growth, embedding security, PCI/DSS, and regulatory readiness into the stack. This is for a senior leader who values clear technical debate, coaching, and raising the

Qualifications

• 10+ years building production software, including 4+ years leading engineers.
• Currently hands-on with production code within the last year.
• Distributed backend systems at scale: data modeling, idempotency, queues.
• A track record of raising engineering bar with measurable impact.
• Real reliability ownership; pager and incident command experience.
• Experience in payments, fintech, or banking infrastructure.
• Strong hiring and coaching instincts for senior engineers.
• Clear written communication to executives and peers.
• Comfort with ambiguity and speed in a fast-moving environment.

Responsibilities

• Set and own Rain's engineering quality bar across design, reviews, testing, and observability.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership by reviewing critical PRs and designs.
• Own architecture across card issuing, wallets, ledger, and money movement.
• Drive reliability and capacity planning for 10x growth.
• Build security and compliance into the platform by design.
• Increase engineering velocity without sacrificing quality.
• Coach managers and leads, aligning with Product, Risk, Compliance, and GTM.
