Job summary

Rain is seeking a Head of Engineering to own the craft, quality, and technical direction of an ~50-person engineering organization. You will shape the multi-year roadmap for card issuing, wallets, ledger, and money movement, while raising the bar on reliability and security.

You will lead through senior engineering managers and tech leads, partnering with Product, Risk, and Compliance. If you enjoy hands-on design debates and coaching, this role will push your leadership and technical influence

Qualifications

• 15+ years building production software.
• 8+ years leading engineers or managing managers.
• Deep experience with distributed backend systems at scale.
• Track record of raising an engineering bar with measurable impact.
• Experience in payments, fintech, or banking infrastructure.
• Ability to communicate complex technical tradeoffs to executives and partners.
• Comfort with ambiguity and speed, and delivering correct software.
• Hands-on experience with security and regulatory considerations in platform design.

Responsibilities

• Own engineering strategy and architecture across core payment infra and multi-year roadmap.
• Set and uphold Rain's engineering quality bar across design, testing, observability, and documentation.
• Review critical designs and architectures, contributing to high-consequence decisions.
• Drive reliability, scalability, capacity planning, and graceful degradation.
• Build security, compliance, and correctness into platform by partnering with Risk, Compliance, and Security.
• Increase engineering velocity through CI/CD improvements and tooling.
• Develop and coach engineering managers and leads, defining ownership and performance standards.
• Represent engineering in leadership discussions with Product, GTM, and partners.
