Job summary

Rain is seeking a Head of Engineering to own the craft, quality, and technical direction of a ~30-person engineering organization. This role focuses on making a small senior team deliver outputs that rival larger teams by raising the bar, tightening systems for money movement, and staying deeply engaged in code and architecture.

You will lead through direct reports and a small group of managers/tech leads, collaborating with Product, Risk, and Compliance.

Qualifications

• 10+ years building production software.
• 4+ years leading engineers.
• Experience with large-scale distributed backend systems.

Responsibilities

• Set and raise engineering quality across design, code, tests, observability, and documentation.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership and review critical PRs/designs.
• Own architecture across card issuing, wallets, ledger, and money movement.
• Drive reliability, scalability, and incident response; plan for 10x growth.
• Ensure security/compliance integration into platform design (PCI, SOC 2, etc.).
• Improve CI/CD, tooling, and architecture to ship safely and independently.
• Coach managers/engineers and partner with Product, Design, Risk, Compliance, and GTM.
