Job summary

Rain is seeking a Head of Engineering to own the craft, quality, and technical direction of a roughly 50-person engineering organization. You will lead through a mix of direct reports and engineering managers, shaping the multi-year roadmap and ensuring the systems that move real money are reliable and scalable.

You will partner with Product, Risk, Compliance, and Security to meet regulatory requirements and drive architectural decisions.

Qualifications

• 15+ years building production software, including 8+ years leading engineers.
• Current technical credibility with recent code reviews and architecture input.
• Deep experience with distributed backend systems at scale (data modeling, idempotency, queues).
• Track record of raising an engineering bar and improving quality, velocity, or reliability.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive engineering strategy and architecture across payments stack.
• Set and own engineering quality bar across design, testing, observability, and documentation.
• Review high-consequence designs and architecture; participate in critical build-vs-buy decisions.
• Drive reliability, scalability, and operational excellence with SLOs, incident response, and capacity planning.
