Job summary

OpenAI, Inc. seeks an experienced energy and infrastructure lawyer to support power procurement and data center development. You will manage complex energy transactions, draft and negotiate PPA and hedging agreements, and align regulatory considerations with business strategy.

You will partner with energy, infrastructure, engineering, procurement, and finance teams, shaping a scalable commercial playbook for energy solutions in the AI era.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of legal experience in energy transactions and infrastructure.
• JD and licensed to practice in California.
• In-house or law firm experience advising energy companies.
• Experience leading complex energy transactions independently.
• Strong understanding of U.S. electricity markets and regulatory frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Own legal strategy and risk management for global energy procurement and power infrastructure transactions.
• Draft, negotiate, and advise on power purchase agreements and energy hedging arrangements.
• Structure interconnection, transmission, and utility infrastructure agreements.
• Advise leadership on legal/regulatory considerations for energy and data center strategy.
• Support partnerships involving renewable generation, storage, and on-site power.
• Develop legal frameworks for procurement and project development.
• Coordinate with finance and operations to align terms with business needs.
• Collaborate with policy/regulatory teams on energy regulatory issues.
• Build scalable contracting processes to accelerate development at speed.
• Guide outside counsel and coordinate with real estate, tax, and regulatory teams.
