Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking an EMC Engineer to join the Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering team in Colorado. You will lead EMI/EMC testing, develop verification strategies, and ensure compliance with MIL-STD-461 across avionics systems for spaceflight hardware.

The role emphasizes hands-on testing, documentation, and collaboration with design teams to deliver robust EMI/EMC solutions. Occasional travel and extended hours may be required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or related technical discipline.
  • 5 years of hands-on EMC/EMI testing and verification across MIL-STD-461 CE/CS/RE/RS test methods.
  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-461G, DO-160G, and related aerospace standards.
  • Proficiency in EMI test automation software and data analysis.
  • Proven experience leading small teams and collaborating across engineering disciplines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and willingness for extended hours.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a responsible engineer for electrical system EMI/EMC test and verification, ensuring rigorous compliance with MIL-STD-461 testing and tailoring for aerospace platforms.
  • Author comprehensive EMI/EMC documentation, including system test strategies, requirements decomposition, margin management plans, and design rationales with traceability to MIL-STD-461 methods.
  • Design, develop, and refine detailed Test Plans and Test Procedures for EMI/EMC tests on avionics components and systems.
  • Lead execution of the complete MIL-STD-461 test suite (CE101, CE102, CS101, CS114, CS115, CS116, RE101, RE102, RS101, RS103).
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain EMI/EMC test equipment (receivers, generators, LISNs, probes, antennas).
  • Apply shielded room characterization and grounding techniques per MIL-STD-461 setup.
  • Produce high-quality test reports with spectra, margins, calibration traceability, and pass/fail determinations.
  • Troubleshoot EMI/EMC test failures, identifying root causes and recommending fixes such as filters, shielding, and PCB/layout changes.
  • Develop EMI/EMC design improvements and participate in system-level requirements verification and validation.
  • Communicate across engineering teams and present results to review boards.
