Job summary

AeroVironment is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Learning & Active Perception (LEAP) team. The role focuses on video processing and perception pipelines for low-SWaP processors (e.g., Nvidia Xavier/Orin) and integration into unmanned aerial systems.

You will implement CV/vision algorithms in C++, configure build systems with CMake, and work on testing, documentation, and customer-facing deliverables. Requires DoD clearance readiness and US citizenship.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Math, or Physics or equivalent
• 5–8 years of software engineering experience
• Strong C/C++ skills and data structures/algorithms
• Experience with CMake and modern C++ build systems
• Experience with Python for tooling
• Experience with Ubuntu/CentOS Linux
• Experience with unit testing and debugging
• Familiarity with Git, IDEs, debuggers
• Desire to collaborate with external developers and customers

Responsibilities

• Implement and optimize computer vision and perception algorithms using C++ on low-SWaP embedded processors
• Support testing and demonstration of components and integrated systems
• Produce documentation and reports for customers and stakeholders
• Create software design documentation per standards
• Write tests and ensure code quality; participate in process improvements
• Deliver on time per project schedule and budget
• Collaborate with other developers to reuse software
• Mentor less experienced engineers
