Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the LEAP team focused on image/video processing and perception pipelines for low-SWaP devices (e.g., Nvidia Xavier/Orin) and integration with UAS. You will work on benchtop testing and field experiments to validate autonomous capabilities.

The role emphasizes C++ implementation, optimization of perception pipelines, collaboration with teammates, and contribution to technical documentation and customer-facing demonstrations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Math, or Physics or equivalent.
• 5–8 years of relevant software engineering experience.
• Proficient in C/C++ with understanding of data structures, algorithms and OO design.
• Experience with CMake and modern C++ build systems.
• Experience with Python for tooling, scripting, and prototyping.
• Experience with Ubuntu and/or CentOS Linux operating systems.
• Experience with writing unit tests and debugging code.
• Experience with DDS, gRPC and Rust preferred.
• Familiar with source control tools (Git) and IDEs/debuggers.
• Collaborates with external developers and customers.

Responsibilities

• Implements and optimizes computer vision and perception algorithms using C++, including build system configuration with CMake and targeting low-SWaP embedded processors.
• Supports testing and demonstration of components and integrated systems.
• Develops documentation, technical reports, and provides report inputs for customers and stakeholders.
• Creates software design documentation according to software process requirements and guidance from Senior Engineers.
• Implements coding according to coding standards and writes unit tests.
• Delivers work on time according to project schedule and budget.
• Collaborates with other software developers to reuse and adapt software for different programs.
• Mentors less experienced engineers and contributes to process improvements.
