Job summary

AeroVironment is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the LEAP team, focusing on image/video processing and computer vision for embedded platforms used in unmanned systems.

The role emphasizes implementing and optimizing CV pipelines on low-SWaP devices, building with CMake, and delivering tested software. U.S. Citizenship is required; DoD clearance is a plus, with occasional travel across CONUS.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• 5-8 years of relevant experience in software engineering or related field.
• Strong software engineering skills with proficiency in C/C++ (primary), including data structures, algorithms, OOP, and development workflows.
• Experience with CMake and modern C++ build systems.
• Experience with Python for tooling, scripting, and prototyping (secondary).
• Experience with Ubuntu and/or CentOS Linux operating systems.
• Experience with writing unit tests and debugging code.
• DDS, gRPC, and Rust is preferred.
• Demonstrated mathematical and analytical skills are required.
• Familiarity with source code configuration management tools, such as Git, as well as IDEs and debuggers.
• Collaboration with external developers and customers.

Responsibilities

• Implements and optimizes computer vision and perception algorithms in C++, including build system configuration with CMake.
• Supports testing and demonstration of components and integrated systems.
• Develops documentation, technical reports, and provides inputs for customer presentations.
• Creates software design documentation per software process requirements.
• Implements coding per standards; writes and tests code; contributes to process improvement.
• Delivers work on time according to schedule and budget.
• Supports and derives algorithm design from detailed software requirements.
• Works with other software developers to reuse software across programs.
• Operates in a learning environment under moderate supervision; mentors others.
