Job summary

Valar Atomics in Utah seeks a mid-level Electrical Engineer to design MV/LV electrical systems for nuclear fuel manufacturing and process facilities. You will cover the full electrical discipline from power studies to equipment specification and commissioning support.

You will lead sizing, protection coordination, and vendor reviews, while coordinating with I&C, civil, and safety engineers in a safety-focused, high-impact startup environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
  • 5+ years of electrical engineering experience in MV/LV distribution system design.
  • Experience with power system analysis software (SKM/ETAP) for load flow, short circuit, and coordination studies.
  • Experience performing arc flash studies to IEEE 1584.
  • Familiarity with IEEE, NEMA, ANSI, CSA, and IEC standards.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or equivalent electrical design tools.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain electrical load lists and perform power system studies (load flow, short circuit, voltage drop, motor starting, harmonics).
  • Prepare arc flash analysis and grounding calculations; size transformers, cables, switchgear, buses and UPS/battery systems.
  • Create single line diagrams and layout drawings for MV/LV distribution and cable routing.
  • Specify equipment and prepare area classifications; ensure compliance with NEC/CEC 500 or IEC 60079 series.
  • Prepare protection relay settings studies and coordination plots; develop relay schematics and control wiring diagrams.
  • Lead vendor pre-qualification, bid evaluation, and audits for safety-critical electrical equipment.
