Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an experienced design engineer in Chicago, hybrid role combining home and office work. You will support electrical design on multi-discipline teams, producing calculations, site plans, wiring diagrams, and specifications for complex systems in nuclear-related projects.

The position requires ABET-accredited BSEE/MSEE, 5+ years in electrical engineering, and ability to obtain US security clearance. PE is a plus; DOE experience welcomed.

Qualifications

• Must be able to obtain US Government security clearance.
• BSEE or MSEE degree from an ABET-accredited program.
• 5+ years of progressive experience in electrical engineering, ideally in a nuclear environment.
• Experience designing low to medium voltage electrical distribution and instrumentation wiring.
• Experience with NEC, UL508, electrical codes, and IES Lighting Handbook.
• Proficiency or ability to learn ETAP and/or SKM Power Tools for load flow/arc flash.
• Proficiency or ability to learn lighting analysis software Visual and AGI32.
• Professional Engineer License (PE) is valued but not required.
• DOE experience preferred; field engineering and construction experience.

Responsibilities

• Support electrical design efforts on multi-disciplined project design teams.
• Produce engineering calculations/analyses and reports.
• Prepare design inputs for drawings: site plans, power/lighting, one-line diagrams.
• Apply electrical engineering to design and qualification of systems and components.
• Produce procurement and construction specifications.
• Attend project meetings and perform field walk downs.
• Mentor developing engineers.
