Job summary

HDR is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer focused on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). You will contribute to grid-scale projects by leading concept layouts, one-line diagrams, and detailed design documentation.

You will collaborate with civil, structural, FLS, HV, SCADA, and geotechnical teams to deliver complete packages. The role requires 10+ years in electrical design for BESS or related fields, strong NEC/IEEE knowledge, and excellent written and verbal communication.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of experience in BESS, power generation, renewables, or power system controls.
• Design experience per NEC, IEEE, and relevant codes.
• Strong written and verbal communication for diverse audiences.
• Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects.
• Experience with vendor and client liaison for project execution.

Responsibilities

• Develop conceptual layouts and one-line diagrams for BESS projects.
• Evaluate energy storage technologies and support vendor selection.
• Prepare design plans, specifications, cost estimates, and construction documents.
• Coordinate with civil, structural, FLS, HV, SCADA, and geotechnical engineers.
• Prepare technical reports explaining BESS concepts and feasibility.
• Provide construction phase support including RFIs and submittals.
• Support meetings with clients, contractors, and vendors.
