Job summary

HDR is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to lead design for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) within the Power sector. You will develop concepts, one-line diagrams, and construction documents, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver reliable energy storage projects.

You will engage with clients and stakeholders, review specifications, and mentor junior engineers while ensuring quality and adherence to codes. Denver-based role with travel up to 10%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• 10+ years of experience in design of BESS, power generation, renewables, electrical distribution, or power system controls.
• Experience with NEC, NESC, IEEE codes and standards.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support grid scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects from concept to construction design packages.
• Evaluate energy storage technologies and support vendor selection and implementation.
• Develop engineering design plans, specs, cost estimates, and construction docs at milestones for BESS.
• Coordinate with civil, structural, fire & life safety, high-voltage electrical, SCADA, water, and geotechnical engineers.
• Prepare technical reports explaining BESS concepts, use-cases and feasibility results.
