Job summary

HDR, Inc. in North Carolina is seeking an engineer to advance Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and related power projects. You will draft layouts, perform tech reviews, and help select technologies while coordinating with civil, electrical, and SCADA teams.

You’ll develop construction-ready design packages, write technical reports, and mentor junior staff, ensuring quality and on-schedule delivery. Travel up to 10% is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
• PE or P.Eng license is expected.
• Experience with power market project execution.
• Proficiency in design software (AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Revit).
• Strong technical writing and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support grid-scale BESS projects with layouts and diagrams through construction packages.
• Evaluate energy storage tech and assist vendor selection and implementation.
• Develop and review design plans, specs, cost estimates and docs.
• Coordinate with civil, structural, fire/LFS, HV electrical, SCADA and geotech engineers.
• Mentor junior team members and support client meetings and business development.
