Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a qualified engineer/drafter for a distributed electrical design role in Lexington, KY. The position emphasizes designing overhead and underground networks, calculating short circuit and voltage drop, and generating BOMs and estimates.

The candidate should have extensive drafting/engineering technology background, strong CAD skills (AutoCAD or MicroStation), and knowledge of industry codes. Relocation may be offered, with a hybrid/remote work setup.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Drafting or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology or high school diploma.
• 7+ years drafting coursework or equivalent technical experience.
• Minimum of 10 years distribution design experience.
• Proficient with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
• Familiarity with design codes and standards such as NESC, NEC, ANSI, IEEE, GIS/GWD.

Responsibilities

• Prepare construction sketches and details for overhead and underground network services (4 KV through 34 KV).
• Perform short circuit and voltage drop calculations.
• Develop Bills of Materials and estimates.
• Compile proper pole type and heights.
• Analyze and design priority feeds.
• Support maintenance and recapitalization of distribution components.
• Plan modifications to the system.
• Develop work packages to troubleshoot, repair, replace or modify electrical distribution systems.
• Develop work packages and follow the performance of the work.
