Job summary

Stantec’s Buildings team in Houston is seeking a Senior Electrical Designer to lead the preparation of building electrical plans and specifications for diverse projects. You will coordinate with engineers, designers, clients, contractors, and multi-discipline teams to deliver reliable power, lighting, and life-safety systems.

The role requires a strong background in commercial, healthcare, or institutional design, with at least 10 years of experience and leadership skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university is required.
• Minimum of 10 years of electrical design experience for commercial, healthcare, institutional, or similar building projects.
• Previous managerial or team leadership experience is strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of electrical design for commercial, healthcare, institutional, or similar building projects.
• Ability to lead design coordination efforts across multiple disciplines.
• Experience with normal and emergency power distribution, lighting, life safety, fire alarm systems, grounding, telecom, and security infrastructure.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit MEP.
• Experience with electrical modeling and analysis tools such as SKM, ETAP, EZ-Power, or similar IEEE‑compliant platforms.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead preparation of building electrical plans, specifications, and design docs.
• Serve as technical lead and design manager for multiple projects.
• Set design schedules and provide regular updates.
• Coordinate cross-discipline activities with MEP, architectural, and others.
• Conduct site surveys with basic surveying tools and safety gear.
• Prepare site analyses to evaluate feasibility and issues.
• Prepare layouts, one-line diagrams, lighting and fire alarm plans.
• Provide construction administration support and respond to RFIs.
• Interact with AHJs as needed.
• Prepare photometric studies and lighting analyses.
• Model electrical systems using SKM, ETAP, EZ-Power, IEEE tools.
• Support specification of transformers, switchboards, panelboards, etc.
• Model and analyze power distribution systems.
• Support life safety and lighting systems design.
