Job summary

Stantec’s Buildings group in the United States is seeking an Electrical Engineer/Project Designer to lead electrical design for diverse projects. You’ll work on power, lighting, fire alarm, and low voltage systems, using Revit and AutoCAD, and guide junior staff to meet project goals.

You will coordinate with other disciplines, perform calculations, participate in site visits, and contribute to design documentation and reviews in a collaborative, design-forward environment.

Qualifications

• Thorough understanding of electrical engineering concepts.
• Solid understanding of power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low voltage systems.
• Experience in the construction industry and knowledge of construction processes.
• Strong understanding of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
• Ability to apply sustainable design principles within projects.
• Ability to integrate design elements with other disciplines.
• Knowledge of NFPA standards, International Building Codes and energy codes.
• Strong client communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple overlapping projects and design teams.
• Ability to guide junior staff and train on software.

Responsibilities

• Creates electrical design documentation using Revit/AutoCAD and guides junior staff.
• Supervises assigned staff to develop skills and career goals.
• Leads design development through sketches, calculations, models and diagrams.
• Prepares documentation for site plans, floor plans, diagrams and details.
• Coordinates with architectural, structural, mechanical, and civil disciplines.
• Performs advanced calculations and reviews calculations by others.
• Conducts field work to assess existing facilities for design input.
• Leads construction administration duties, including shop drawings and RFIs.
• Evaluates building systems and develops job-specific specifications.
• Attends project coordination meetings and participates in value engineering.
