Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Albuquerque, NM seeks a Staff Distribution Engineer to design distribution for 2.4kV to 34.5kV projects, both overhead and underground, collaborating through design and construction.

The role requires ABET-accredited engineering education and 3+ years of experience, with strong knowledge of power flow, GIS, and distribution software, plus excellent communication. Travel up to 10% may be required.

Qualifications

Bachelors with ABET accreditation and 3 years of relevant engineering experience (consulting preferred).
ALTERNATE: Bachelor in ABET-accredited program with FE and 3 years of relevant experience (consulting preferred).
Master's degree in Engineering with 2 years of relevant experience (consulting preferred).
Strong knowledge of electrical distribution power flow.
Proficiency with GIS and distribution design software.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Develop and prepare distribution voltage packages for overhead and underground projects, including equipment installation and feeder design.
Develop design sketches, cost estimates, BOMs, and other deliverables.
Perform distribution calculations: cable pulling, voltage drop, pole loading.
Apply knowledge of NESC and utility standards, guides, specs and procedures.
Research and compile project data for managers.
Perform field inspections of overhead/underground facilities on public/private systems.
Prepare communications on vegetation management, ROW, outages.
Develop client presentations, reports, and visualizations of results and status.
Performs other duties as assigned and complies with policies.
