Job summary

The Whitney Museum of American Art seeks a Director of Facilities and Engineering to lead the safe, reliable operation of its buildings and infrastructure. You will direct facilities and engineering teams to support visitor experience, staff needs, and collections care.

Responsibilities include strategic planning, preventive maintenance, energy management, capital projects, and regulatory compliance, with collaboration across Curatorial, Exhibitions, Security, IT, and other departments to

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, Facilities Management, Construction Management, or Business Administration required.
• 7–10+ years of progressive experience in facilities management, building operations, engineering, property management, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of preventive maintenance, asset management, building automation, energy management, and facility reliability.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and day-to-day leadership for facilities and engineering operations.
• Oversee maintenance planning, inspections, and emergency response with a focus on reliability and safety.
• Lead engineering personnel and coordinate with internal departments for optimal building performance.
• Manage capital planning, budgets, and vendor relationships.
• Ensure compliance with building codes, life-safety, and environmental requirements.
