Marqeta, Inc. is seeking a Senior Director, Credit Risk to lead the underwriting team, design strategy, and scale our credit programs. You will mentor a growing team and partner with Product, Risk Operations, Finance, and Data to drive best-in-class credit strategies and models.

This role offers Flexible First work, with remote options nationwide or from our Oakland, CA headquarters. You will represent Marqeta to customers and bank partners, helping build a modern, data-driven credit stack.

Qualifications

• 12-15+ years of experience in credit underwriting at major banks.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Finance, Business, Accounting, Economics, Statistics, Math or similar fields (Advanced statistical background strongly preferred).
• Expertise in Excel and SQL modeling plus strong programming and data analytics experience in R or Python.

Responsibilities

• Scale and lead Marqeta's credit organization.
• Mentor and develop a high-performing team as it scales.
• Oversee portfolio performance across consumer and commercial programs.
• Build and refine underwriting models leveraging data science.
• Monitor and adjust credit policies based on risk trends.
• Establish credit strategies for various programs to drive KPIs.
