About the Company:

Our client is a global contract research, development, and manufacturing organization (CRDMO) specializing in small molecule and biologics services. With comprehensive capabilities across research, development, and manufacturing, the company enables partners to advance their therapeutic programs from early-stage discovery through to commercialization. The organization’s discovery function is a key growth area, offering a range of services including biology, chemistry, pharmacology, and therapeutic discovery support.

Position Summary:

The Senior Director of Business Development – Discovery will be responsible for driving revenue growth by expanding strategic partnerships and new client acquisition within the discovery services portfolio. This leader will serve as the face of the Discovery division, owning the commercial strategy across the U.S. biotech and pharma landscape and building strong, consultative relationships with key decision-makers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead commercial efforts for discovery services, including biologics and small molecule discovery, antibody engineering, and assay development.
  • Identify, qualify, and close new business opportunities with biopharma companies, from emerging startups to established enterprises.
  • Develop and execute a territory plan to drive consistent growth in key biotech hubs (e.g., Boston, San Diego, Bay Area).
  • Act as a strategic advisor to clients, understanding their R&D goals and proposing tailored service solutions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with scientific, project management, and leadership teams to ensure seamless proposal development and project execution.
  • Represent the organization at key industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events.
  • Monitor market trends, competitive activity, and client feedback to inform strategy and service positioning.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related life science field; advanced degree (MS, PhD, or MBA) preferred.
  • Minimum of 8–10 years of business development experience in the biotech, pharmaceutical, or CDMO/CRO sector, with at least 5+ years in discovery services.
  • Proven track record of consistently meeting or exceeding annual sales targets ($5M+).
  • Deep understanding of biologics discovery workflows, including antibody screening, bispecifics, ADCs, and early-stage lead optimization.
  • Strong network within biotech decision-makers, particularly within discovery and preclinical R&D teams.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, cross-functional, and collaborative environment.

Compensation:

Highly competitive base salary plus uncapped performance-based commission and comprehensive benefits.
