Job summary

McKesson Corporation seeks a highly experienced Lead Database Engineer to be the technical authority for enterprise PostgreSQL and SQL Server platforms across on‑premises and Microsoft Azure environments.

You will drive strategy, architecture, reliability, and automation, partnering with security, SRE, and application teams to modernize services and enable scalable, secure data implementations. This is a senior leadership role with hands‑on responsibilities and mentoring.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in database administration/engineering or related field.
• 5+ years in a senior/lead/architect role supporting production databases.
• 5+ years designing and operating databases in public cloud, with Azure preferred.
• Expert PostgreSQL administration including HA, replication, upgrades and support.

Responsibilities

• Own design, implementation, and operation of PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Azure SQL, and Azure PostgreSQL.
• Lead cloud modernization and migration initiatives, including strategy and cutover planning.
• Establish standards, runbooks, governance, and platform roadmaps for consistency.
• Design highly available, cost-efficient database solutions with DR and failover.
• Advance IaC and Database‑as‑Code with Terraform, Liquibase, and CI/CD automation.
• Drive performance, observability, tuning, capacity planning, and incident response.
• Mentor DBAs and engineers; present roadmaps to senior leadership.
