Job summary

McKesson Corporation is seeking a Lead Database Engineer to serve as the technical authority for enterprise PostgreSQL and SQL Server platforms across on-premises and Microsoft Azure environments. You will drive strategy, architecture, reliability, automation, and lifecycle management of mission-critical databases.

You will mentor engineers and DBAs, lead migrations, establish standards, and partner with security and SRE teams to ensure scalable, secure database services across the enterprise.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in database administration/engineering.
• 5+ years in senior/lead/architect roles supporting production databases.
• 5+ years designing, operating, and optimizing databases in public cloud environments (Azure preferred).
• Expert PostgreSQL administration including high availability, replication, tuning, upgrades, and support.
• Strong SQL Server and Azure SQL experience in enterprise production settings.
• Proven success leading cross-functional database initiatives end-to-end.
• Mentor engineers and DBAs; influence technical standards across teams.

Responsibilities

• Own design, implementation, operation, and evolution of PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Azure SQL, and Azure PostgreSQL environments.
• Lead cloud modernization and database migration initiatives, including architecture, strategy, and cutover planning.
• Establish standards, reference architectures, runbooks, governance, and roadmaps for scalable platforms.
• Design highly available, cost-efficient database solutions with DR, backup, replication, and failover.
• Advance IaC and Database-as-Code through Terraform, Liquibase, and CI/CD automation.
• Drive performance, observability, capacity planning, monitoring, and automation.
• Serve as senior escalation point for critical production issues and root cause analysis.
• Collaborate with security and infra teams on controls, access governance, and vulnerability remediation.
• Mentor DBAs/engineers; lead reviews; promote knowledge sharing and best practices.
• Present roadmaps and architectural decisions to senior leaders with business context.
