Job summary

CoverMyMeds, part of McKesson, seeks a Senior Database Administrator to manage enterprise PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server across on‑premises and Azure environments. You will ensure availability, performance, security, and reliability while collaborating with development, infrastructure, and support teams.

The role requires strong expertise in database administration, backup/DR, and high availability, with experience in cloud deployments and scripting (PowerShell/Python).

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent and typically requires 7+ years of relevant, progressive database administration experience supporting production database environments.
• Strong expertise administering PostgreSQL and/or Microsoft SQL Server in enterprise environments.
• Experience with database installation, configuration, performance tuning, security administration, backup and recovery, and high availability solutions.
• Proficiency with PL/pgSQL and/or T-SQL, including query tuning and optimization.
• Experience troubleshooting complex database issues and implementing effective long‑term solutions.
• Experience supporting databases hosted in cloud environments, preferably Microsoft Azure.
• Experience using automation and scripting technologies such as PowerShell or Python.

Responsibilities

• Design, install, configure, maintain, and support PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server databases across on‑premises and Azure environments.
• Monitor database health and performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning and optimization solutions to improve reliability and efficiency.
• Develop, maintain, and validate backup and disaster recovery processes to ensure data availability and business continuity.
• Administer database security, including user access, permissions, auditing, and compliance with company security standards and regulatory requirements.
• Implement and support high‑availability solutions, including Always On Availability Groups, replication technologies, and failover capabilities.
• Troubleshoot and resolve database‑related issues involving performance, connectivity, availability, corruption, and application integrations.
• Partner with development teams to optimize database schemas, stored procedures, queries, and overall database design.
• Develop and maintain database architecture documentation, operational procedures, and system standards.
• Perform capacity planning and forecasting to support future growth and evolving business needs.
• Participate in the on‑call rotation to provide support for critical database systems and production incidents.
