Job summary

Tempus is seeking a Senior Manager of Software Engineering to lead a small team of data engineers and data architects. You will own the enterprise data model and ensure data accuracy for ML and clinical decisioning, using AI-assisted development to accelerate modeling and pipeline work.

You will set standards, review designs, and collaborate with product managers to translate complex requirements into tangible tasks.

Qualifications

• Experience leading and mentoring a small team of data engineers and data architects.
• Expertise in modern data stack with SQL and Python in enterprise environments.
• Strong modeling skills: 3NF, star schemas, healthcare data standards (FHIR/OMOP).
• Ability to translate complex data requirements into actionable tasks and docs.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a small team of data engineers and data architects, conducting design and code reviews.
• Own and evolve an enterprise data model with cross-functional partners, documenting ER diagrams and data dictionaries.
• Apply modern data architecture best practices and teach modeling standards including 3NF and star schema.
• Profile source-system models, resolve inconsistencies, and ensure data accuracy for downstream use.
• Design observability for the data ecosystem with BigQuery, dbt, Grafana, and data lineage.
