Job summary

Tempus is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to own the data platform—pipelines, models, and services enabling real-time clinical evaluation. You will work across EHR, genomics, and imaging data, primarily in Python and TypeScript, with a strong emphasis on Google Cloud infrastructure and multi-tenant reliability.

You’ll build scalable, agent-ready data fabric in a HIPAA-regulated setting, extending the platform with Terraform, and collaborating with clinical and analytics teams to ensure data

Qualifications

• 5+ years building data-intensive software systems in production.
• 3+ years data engineering with pipeline ownership or data modeling.
• 2+ years on Google Cloud with BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage.
• Experience in HIPAA-regulated environments.

Responsibilities

• Build pipelines feeding agents for real-time inference across EHR, genomics, and imaging data.
• Own warehouse transformations with dbt on BigQuery; ensure tests and docs.
• Model multi-modal patient records with normalized design and enforced rules.
• Move data via Pub/Sub with idempotent, reliable processing.
• Develop TS services and APIs for agent input/output and orchestration.
• Extend and operate Google Cloud footprint via Terraform (BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Cloud SQL).
• Scale for federated hospital networks with high availability.
• Ensure data quality and lineage with traceability to source systems.
• Implement observability and error-tracking with human-in-the-loop checks.
• Collaborate on governance in HIPAA-regulated environments.
