Job summary

Samsara is seeking a Senior Data Engineer II to join the Data & AI team within Business Technology. You’ll design data platforms as products, build scalable Spark/PySpark workflows, and develop data APIs that empower analytics across the organization.

You’ll work on MCP servers, AI agents, and data tooling in an AI-first environment. This role emphasizes systems thinking, data infrastructure as a product, and collaboration across cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, agile setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data engineering, data science, information technology, or an equivalent engineering program.
• 10+ years of work experience as a Software Engineer with data focus or as Data Engineer.
• 8+ years building large-scale, production-grade end-to-end data pipelines including data modeling.
• 5+ years hands-on Spark / PySpark in production, with optimization.
• 3+ years developing and managing Python APIs.
• Strong programming in Python and SQL with cloud data warehouse experience (Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Iceberg).
• Experience with ETL tools like Fivetran, DBT, or equivalents.
• Experience with RDBMS like MySQL, AWS RDS/Aurora, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MS SQL Server.
• Cloud experience with AWS, Azure, and/or GCP.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain end-to-end data pipelines and backend ingestion workflows; contribute to Samsara’s Data Platform.
• Work with data from ERP (Netsuite), CRM (Salesforce), Product, Order Flow, and Support data.
• Manage critical data pipelines to enable growth and analytics.
• Facilitate data integration and transformation across applications and data lake.
• Improve data architecture, quality, monitoring, and availability.
• Write data transformations in SQL/Python for data products used by Analytics, Marketing Ops, and Sales Ops.
• Design, build, and operate large-scale Spark and PySpark workflows across Databricks and cloud environments.
• Optimize Spark performance for production reliability and efficiency.
