Job summary

Synchrony is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to lead data warehousing initiatives, accelerate migration to AWS (Redshift), and guide a technical team in a dynamic environment. You will collaborate with architects, data scientists, and product managers to design scalable data solutions, ensure high availability, and maintain data governance across platforms.

The role requires deep knowledge of ETL, RDBMS, Ab Initio, SQL, and cloud data services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 4 years of technology experience in consumer banking OR High School Diploma/GED with a minimum of 6 years of technology experience OR completion of Synchrony’s Business Leadership Program
• Experience with large-scale relational databases and public cloud environments (AWS preferred)
• Strong experience in ETL, data warehousing, cloud technologies (AWS) and analytics concepts
• Strong engineering skills with on-prem RDBMS/data warehouse platforms, Ab Initio (GDE/CoOperating System), advanced SQL, and AWS incl. Redshift
• Strong cloud engineering skills with AWS, including hands-on experience with Amazon Redshift and related data services
• Experience with batch and real-time data pipelines in a DevOps environment
• Willing to work in a fast-paced environment with globally located Agile teams on different shifts
• Ability to develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with Technology and Business Stakeholders
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; timely actionable follow-through
• Ability and flexibility to travel for business as required

Responsibilities

• Understand and manage the data needs of stakeholders in a single business vertical
• Design and implement scalable and fault-tolerant data applications on on-prem & AWS to store and process terabytes of data with high availability
• Partner with information architects, platform architects, data scientists and product management on solution requirements
• Resolve problems through in-depth evaluation of business processes, system processes, enterprise standards & procedures
• Comply with data management policies, standards and procedures
• Design, development, testing oversight, and production implementation using on-prem RDBMS platforms, Ab Initio, SQL, and AWS (Amazon Redshift)
• Lead the technical team to ensure data solutions meet business goals and drive system enhancements
• Work with Product Owners, Product Managers, Program Manager, Scrum Masters and Team Members in Scaled Agile
• Engage in mid-level business partner engagement; manage relationships across technology leadership/peers
• Stay up to date on latest data engineering trends and best practices
• Promote automation through innovative frameworks to reduce redundancy
• Collaborate with data engineering team to promote Synchrony values and culture
• Perform other duties or special projects as assigned
