Job summary

Blue Cross NC is seeking an experienced Data Center Engineer to design and implement complex data center and cloud infrastructure, including network, compute, storage, platform, middleware and databases. You will lead capacity planning, define performance standards, partner with vendors, and drive operational readiness across projects and incidents.

Hybrid-flex role based in Durham, with remote flexibility and a broad set of benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or advanced degree required.
• 5+ years of experience in IT infrastructure or data center engineering.
• In lieu of degree, 7+ years of experience in related field.
• Bonus points for AWS cloud and enterprise Linux expertise (RHEL9, AIX).
• Hands-on with Ansible Tower for automation and configuration management.
• Experience with patch management and vulnerability remediation in large environments.
• Knowledge of security best practices and compliance in enterprise settings.

Responsibilities

• Plan and develop complex engineering designs for network, compute, telephony, platform, middleware and database solutions.
• Own capacity planning in support of SLAs and ensure technology currency.
• Define hardware and software performance standards.
• Collaborate with vendors to align infrastructure with architecture.
• Provide operational readiness through design, planning, and execution of performance and tuning.
• Guide production incident solutioning and consult on production issues.
