Job summary

The State of South Carolina seeks a Security Supervisor to oversee security staff and inmate custody in a medium/maximum security facility, including supervision of the Community Hospital and Rehabilitation Center property. Under general supervision, you will plan and direct security operations, enforce OSHA standards, and ensure counts and investigations are conducted properly.

A high school diploma is required; a related bachelor’s may substitute.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and relevant experience; a bachelor's degree may substitute for the required experience.
• Three years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work, including one year of supervisory experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry.

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates, and directs security staff, overseeing security, custody, and control of inmates in assigned unit(s) of a medium/maximum security facility.
• Assumes primary responsibility for security at Community Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, all buildings, and public property.
• M​akes routine checks to ensure subordinate staff perform duties properly, maintain safety, cleanliness, and OSHA standards.
• Assists with all inmates counts for accuracy.
• Investigates complaints and violations; arbitrates disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.
